Hello, Crete Families!
The school year is underway and we have had a really great start. There are a few important announcements in this months newsletter.
Attendance
Attendance is incredibly important. At the high school we have block scheduling which means that students will only have each class 42 times. Missing more than five class periods will have a negative effect on the students ability to learn all of the material.
Reminder that we have a new credit policy. Any student that misses 5 or more of the same class period will have to make an attendance plan with their teacher, counselor, administrator, and parent. If a student misses 10 of the same class period, they will only be able to achieve half credit. The half credit can be appealed by the parent. In that case, the students attendance plan will be revised, if they are able to follow that plan and pass the class they will receive full credit. Any student that misses 20 of the same class will automatically receive zero credit. Please help your student to be at school and on time.
ACT Preparation
All sophomores will be taking the Pre-ACT in the spring and all juniors will be taking the ACT in the spring. Each student is signed up for ACT prep through Prepscholar. They will be doing Prepscholar every A day during Cardinal Time for a minimum of 15 minutes. Prepscholar can also be practiced outside of school on the student's own time.
Parent/Teacher Conferences
Parent/Teacher conferences will be October 2nd from 6:00-8:30 and October 3rd all day.
Athletics
All of our fall sports are in action. Come out and cheer on our many teams that are competing.
📅 Important Dates
September 16th: No school, teacher work day
Safety
Photo identification will be required when picking up students from the office during the school day. This measure is being implemented to ensure the safety and security of all our students. We appreciate your cooperation and understanding.
Our school will continue to use The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol. The premise is simple - five specific actions could be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is communicated first with one common word and then simple directions. For example, if sheltering from severe weather, the students would be told "Shelter. Tornado sirens are sounding. Evacuate to a sheltered area." Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers, and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter. Please see the attached document for more information.
